Named after Beverley in Yorkshire, England, Beverly was originally part of Salem. The area was first settled in 1626 and incorporated in1668. The first US commissioned ship sailed from Beverly Harbor in 1775. Beverly was once home to president Taft’s summer White House. The United Shoe Machinery Corporation was once a monopoly on shoe machinery. “The Shoe” once employed half the population of Beverly paying the highest wages in the country. Now refurbished as the Cummings Center, it has over 2 million square feet of office space, shops and restaurants. Beverly was also the location of the first Sunday School (1810) and the first and largest cotton mill in the country.

You can get in and out of Beverly by car, train, boat, or plane.
