The town of Danvers is located on the Danvers River near the northeastern coast of Massachusetts. The Danvers MA real estate market attracts home buyers looking to settle in a small community with a rich history and great outdoors.
Settled in 1636, Danvers was originally known as Salem Village, and is widely known for its association with the 1692 Salem Witch trials. The Rebecca Nurse Homestead is an historic Danvers museum named after a nurse who was sentenced to death during the Salem Witch Trials. In recent years Danvers erected a small but moving monument called the Witch Trials Memorial lamenting this horrible abuse.
Named after Danvers Osborne, in 1752 the people of Danvers petitioned the Crown for a charter as a town and was denied with the message “The King Unwilling” and those words defiantly appear on the town seal to this day. Danvers was also known for the Danvers State Psychiatric Hospital which was demolished in 2006 and the acreage used for development.
Today, this populace of around 27,000 enjoy two of the North Shore’s largest movie theaters, the Liberty Tree Mall, Danversport Yacht Club, Glen Magna, Laser Quest, Coco Key Water Park, and Endicott Park which is sitting on 165 acres featuring historical farm buildings, woodlands, marshes and orchards. The park offers a playground, fishing, nature trails for hiking as well as sledding and cross-country skiing opportunities in the winter. There is plenty of shopping downtown and at the Mall. Great restaurants are abundant including a number geared for families. The people who live here love it!
